Fishing Regulations

MLPA wants to close La Jolla and Del Mar to fishing and recreation. What can we do?

The MLPA wants to establish a geographically-spaced network of marine protected areas off the coast of California to protect species diversity and to restore habitat.

This is great however, La Jolla is the alternative option they are considering instead of Del Mar. The problem with it is that La Jolla is an already self sustainable ecosystem that readily replenishes itself without the need for human intervention. I do support the MLPA but I do feel that it would be better suited environmentally as well as economically to issue this protection in Del Mar because Del Mar would be a more appropriate choice as far as habitat is concerned and have less of an impact on our already failing economy.

Also, closing off La Jolla to recreational fishing would force us to fish in Mexican waters which at this point in time is not a wise option for anyone. Please take a look at the petitions, fill them out and send them to your local state rep. Again, we are for marine protection but find that closing the already hard to access waters in Del Mar would be a better choice as it is not as sustainable, has less traffic, is not as dependent on tourism and local fisherman.

Please print and sign these form and send them to your local state representative to close down Del Mar instead of La Jolla.

Please take the time to print, read, sign and send these letters out otherwise we are once again being subject to large commercial industries and it is taking away our rights to enjoy our waters which have always been part of our culture and personal dependence, not just for our health and mental well being but also for the impact is will further cause to our local socio-economic system that is already in jeopardy.

Thank you,
