Rods and Reels

Having a good fishing reel or a collection of fishing reels is so important to fishing. Your fishing reel is what is going to help you catch that fish especially when sport fishing or ocean fishing.

Not only that but you really don’t want a crap fishing rod that can snap or break, so depending of what kind of fish you are fishing for, you want to be sure you have shopped for the right reels and rods to go with.

For instance, using a light graphite rod such as a Shimano Cumara is good because it will bend pretty far without breaking which is definitely something you will want if you are fishing for larger fish such as dorado or yellow tail. Being sensitive and light weight is also a plus because it makes it easier to detect when you have gotten a nibble.

You have to get a good reel too. When shopping for fishing reels you will want to decide for yourself what skill level you are. If you are horrible at casting, you do not want a reel that can become easily tangled. Of course you should be taking other things into account such as what pound test line or type of line you are using. I am sure that really experienced fisherman can use a crap reel but even they don’t want to fuss with a junk reel.

I can’t think of anything that can piss me or any other fisherman off more than having a hook up and your line getting tangled. Your fishing reel and rod are two of the most important pieces of fishing gear a person can have. The price of a good reel and rod is not cheap but it is worth the investment. Most fishermen know the importance after probably having broken a rod or snapped a line do to crappy cheap equipment. It is inevitable that you will end up spending more money replacing cheap reels and rods then you will if you do some research and buy a good one first.

Plus fly fishing, sport fishing, ocean fishing, river fly fishing and good ole fashioned lake fishing is supposed to ease the stresses of daily life, not stress you out because you lost your catch due to crappy fishing gear. Don’t be that guy! To make an informed decision it is best to know the habits or traits of the fish you want to catch such as their average size, the waters you will be fishing in, what kind of bait or lures work the best and what kind of fight they put up. Knowing what to expect is part of being a good fisherman.
